The short version

The words you look up in the Mac app never leave your Mac. This website sets no cookies, and the only personal data it handles is an email address, if you choose to give one.

The Mac app

Lexy 1.0 has no server and makes no network requests of its own, apart from checking whether a newer version has been released.

  • Selected text, the app it came from, and the surrounding sentence are read when you press the lookup shortcut. They are translated on your Mac and stored on your Mac. They are never uploaded.
  • Translation uses Apple's Translation framework, on device. Apple's own privacy terms cover it; we receive nothing.
  • Your vocabulary is a database inside your user library. Deleting the app's data, or the app, removes it.
  • Update checks fetch a file from dl.getlexy.app, which is served by Cloudflare. Like any web request this exposes your IP address and the version you are running to that server. It carries no identifier we created, and nothing about what you look up.
  • The Accessibility permission is what lets Lexy read the text you have selected in another application. It is used for that and nothing else. You can revoke it in System Settings › Privacy & Security at any time.

A future version will offer to send a word and its sentence to a server for a better translation, and to sync your vocabulary between devices. Neither exists today. When they do, they will be yours to switch on, and this page will be updated before they ship.

This website

We use two processors, and no others.

  • Loops (Loops Labs, Inc., United States) stores the email addresses given through the forms on this site and sends the download link and occasional product updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link, which removes the address.
  • PostHog (EU hosting, Germany) counts page views, downloads started and addresses submitted, each recorded with whether the visitor was on a phone or a computer. No email address is ever attached to an analytics event.

Analytics here store their identifier in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, and there is no advertising or cross-site tracking of any kind. That is why this site has no cookie banner: it sets no cookies.

The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for a short period, as any web host does.

Your rights, and getting in touch

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted — in practice that means your email address, and unsubscribing already removes it. Write to hello@getlexy.app and we'll sort it out. The data controller is Required Technology OÜ, Estonia.
